The IC-M710 is a rugged transceiver built for its purpose. Though it covers the whole HF band, it is not intended for use by a radio amateur. The user interface being its weakest point (for a Ham). The features that are sorely missed by a Ham being:
- A Tuning dial - a true VFO tuning dial is missing.
- A real CAT interface.
- A headphone jack
For the last couple of weeks I was pondering over the idea of having a remote control unit that will address the above limitations. Also with the additional features:
- A remote panel that can be used as a face plate for mobile operations.
- Band selection, tuner commands
- Rotator control
- Frequency memories
- RIT
- CW keyer
Update 13/3/2017
1st prototype finished, can go remote on/off, VFO A/B, step size changes, delayed TX freq set, etc.

Hi, it's brilliant. I am trying to do the same thing, because I have the same radio. But i can't found information about RS232 connections. Could you tell me where i can found this info? Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteAnybody? I'd like to make one of these too.
ReplyDeleteI'd buy one if the price was right.
ReplyDeleteIs the source code, schematics, BOM, any of this available? I'd like to build one for myself and myself only.
ReplyDeleteMoże coś więcej jakieś .ino Schematics

ReplyDeleteHello Bejoy, I have built many DDS VFO's using an ARDUINO Nano. Looking at your very quick video, I would easily duplicate this for my two IC - 710's - one for me and one for my brother. This is a wonderful and fantastic project, I need to know more, please. You said in 2017 that this was a prototype and there was more info to follow. Please be so kind as too let me have the followup details, i.e What changes are made inside the 710, where is the DDS connected to inside the 710, may I have a copy of your source sketch (is it in C or C+ language?) and or the HEX file, diagram of the DDS syntheziser. The display you use looks like the Nokia 5110.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your response urgently.

This is my second comment to you. I hope you can help me. I eventually managed to find more news about your remote synthesizer for the IC - 710. I see you have now got PCB's. I have all the components to build your project. May I please buy some of these PCB boards for our club. But will need all of the circuit diagrams and software, and what changes are to be made inside the 710. I look forward to your response, please. Bob................ZS6RZ
